By Jarrod Krug, Industry Marketing Manager for Autodesk BIM 360 Every three years, ConExpo-Con/Agg comes around—a colossal event for the construction industry taking place this week in Las Vegas. With over 130,000 professionals attending from across the globe, the show is buzzing with excitement as nearly 2,500 exhibitors present their latest offerings. As part of our ongoing mission to revolutionize construction through BIM adoption, Autodesk is making waves at the exhibition. After wrapping up day one, I’m excited to share some highlights from what we’ve been showcasing. ![Autodesk Booth](#) Our main goal here is to demonstrate seven core construction-focused applications from both the Autodesk Building Design Suite and our BIM 360 cloud and mobile solutions for seamless field collaboration. We’re also teaming up with Topcon to showcase how modern workflows can bridge the gap between the office and the field using robotic total stations for construction positioning. Specifically, we’re featuring Topcon’s LN-100 Total Station integrated into an Autodesk BIM-based workflow. To give you a sense of our joint demo with Topcon, picture this: You're a contractor juggling tight budgets and schedules. Traditionally, your methods involve paper plans, measuring tapes, and string lines to set benchmarks like slab edges and formwork locations. While these practices have worked in the past, they limit your ability to stay competitive. The experience at our ConExpo booth aims to equip contractors with cutting-edge tools to boost productivity while phasing out outdated techniques like paper layouts. Here's a quick walkthrough of our demo: Visitors start by learning how to transfer design files from architects or engineers in Revit or AutoCAD into field points using the Autodesk Point Layout Plugin. Once created, these points can be seamlessly exported to the Topcon LN-100 handheld controller. ![Field Controller](#) Next, participants will see how to use the Topcon controller’s display to physically lay out and stake these points using the laser positioning tech in the LN-100 Total Station. This involves guiding a Topcon prism (tracked by the LN-100’s laser) over a custom-designed carpet that mimics the building’s 2D plan view. The field points in the controller software then guide users to precise locations on the carpet for staking. ![Carpet Layout](#) The takeaway? By connecting office-generated data directly to field operations, contractors can significantly enhance efficiency, minimize errors, and cut down on costly rework. Beyond our Topcon collaboration, we’re also giving attendees a hands-on look at the latest versions of Autodesk BIM 360 Field and BIM 360 Glue running on Apple iPads. These demos underscore the power of cloud-connected mobile solutions for construction teams. Whether it’s model collaboration or handoff workflows, the BIM 360 suite enables contractors to capitalize on unprecedented field efficiencies. ![BIM 360 Glue](#) In short, ConExpo is proving to be a fantastic stage for us to push forward our vision of smarter, more efficient construction practices. Stay tuned for more updates as the week progresses!
