The Schiller Park Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 20, has recently been added to the site. The department operates from two stations, with only the main station fully staffed on a daily basis. The second station currently houses a reserve engine and an ambulance. Their firefighting fleet consists of Pierce apparatus built on a variety of chassis, including the Saber, Enforcer, Dash, and Impel models. Their ambulances come from Wheeled Coach and Road Rescue, with Medtec units expected to join soon.
The department's daily operations include an engine, an ambulance, a shift commander, and a jump company that can be deployed for either a tower ladder or a second ambulance. While their current apparatus is painted black over red, the department was once known for its lime green color scheme and had separate fire and EMS divisions in the past.
A historic Cadillac ambulance, once used by the Schiller Park EMS before merging with the fire department, is now preserved as a piece of local history. This vehicle, known as Ambulance 452, is shown in a photo taken by Larry Shapiro.
Another notable piece of equipment is Engine 455, which originally arrived in 1976 from W.S. Darley, mounted on a Hendrickson chassis with an 1871-C cab. It featured 500 gallons of water and a 1,250-GPM pump. In 1992, the engine was refurbished by RPI, which included a full cab enclosure and a new paint job.
In 1995, a new version of Engine 455 was delivered by Pierce, this time on a Saber chassis with the same 1,250-GPM pump and 500-gallon water capacity. Today, it serves as the reserve engine at Station 2 and has been renumbered as Engine 456.
The main fire station, Station 1, is located within the municipal complex, sharing space with the police department and city government offices. This setup reflects the close collaboration between local emergency services. A photo of the station, also captured by Larry Shapiro, highlights its location and importance in the community.
