It’s early morning, and already things are heating up in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Larry Shapiro just sent me an update about a fire that broke out in an attached garage around 2 AM on Friday, May 6th, 2016. The caller quickly reached out to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, and it wasn’t long before help arrived.
As luck would have it, Arlington Heights Engine 4 was among the first responders on the scene. Their station is incredibly close to where the fire erupted, so they wasted no time rushing over. Engine 4 arrived to find the entire house fully engulfed in flames. Without hesitation, they unleashed their deck gun onto the garage while simultaneously deploying a handline. Their quick action made all the difference.
Not far behind was Buffalo Grove Tower 25. They arrived perhaps a minute later and immediately got to work deploying another hose line. Within just a few minutes, the worst of the blaze had been contained. By the time I got there shortly afterward, the situation was well under control.
The initial alarm was escalated to a Code 4 status once Engine 4 arrived, signaling an active fire. It wasn’t long before a Box Alarm was called in to bring in more personnel. Thanks to the rapid response and teamwork, the fire was prevented from spreading further into the house, which could’ve been disastrous.
By the time firefighters arrived, the residents were already safely outside, thankfully unharmed but clearly shaken by the chaos.
I snapped some shots of the scene, capturing the intense flames and the hardworking firefighters battling them. You can see Arlington Heights Engine 4 in action, its crew doing everything possible to keep the situation under control. There’s also a shot of Buffalo Grove Tower 25 arriving on the scene, adding even more resources to the effort.
In addition to the firefighting efforts, you’ll notice some images of the firefighters taking breaks to swap out their air bottles—essential for maintaining their strength and focus during these high-stakes situations.
