It was just before 6:30 AM on Christmas morning when a fast-moving fire broke out in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood, jolting residents awake. The blaze erupted at a two-story wooden apartment building located at 104th Place and State Street. Within minutes, the fire had completely engulfed the attic and second floor of the structure.
Upon arriving at the scene, the commander of Battalion 22 reported severe fire conditions on the second floor and immediately requested additional resources, prompting a still and box alarm. Firefighters encountered a significant challenge securing water due to two frozen hydrants along State Street, which delayed their initial efforts. Eventually, they managed to establish a water supply, but this delay caused further complications.
The building was fully occupied, yet fortunately, all residents managed to evacuate safely. However, the adjoining side of the building suffered extensive damage from the intense flames.
