Another installment in the history of turret wagons in the Chicago Fire Department, brought to you by Jack Connors. The images showcase "Big Mo," a unique unit that saw two different chassis over its service life. Initially assigned as 6-7-2 on a 1953 International 6×6 chassis, it was painted black over red and carried shop number G-248. Later, it was re-mounted on a 1957 GMC 6×6 chassis, painted in the iconic blue and white of the Civil Defense, with shop number G-157. These photos offer a rare look into the evolution of this historic vehicle.
The collection includes images from Jack Connors, Ken Little, and George Brown, providing a rich visual narrative of Big Mo’s time in service. From working fires to parades and daily operations, these photos capture the spirit and legacy of one of the department’s most recognizable units.
