On Saturday afternoon, a fire broke out in an attached garage on Middleton Court, prompting a quick response from Des Plaines Fire Department and several mutual aid fire companies. Des Plaines Engine 61 was the first to arrive and confirmed the fire in the garage. The crews launched an aggressive attack, but some of the flames had already spread into the main house. Engine 61 was positioned at a hydrant in the cul-de-sac, allowing for a steady water supply.
Interior crews reported that fire was visible at the top of the stairs on the second floor and in the attic. In response, Des Plaines was assisted by firefighters from Prospect Heights, Mount Prospect, Niles, and the North Maine Fire Protection District. The coordinated effort helped bring the fire under control, though the situation remained serious for a period of time.
Multiple fire trucks were seen on the scene, including a Pierce Enforcer and a Pierce ArrowXT, both clearly visible in the photos taken by Larry Shapiro. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick response times and the critical role of mutual aid in handling large or complex fires.
Photos from the scene show the intensity of the fire and the professionalism of the responding crews. Despite the challenging conditions, no injuries have been reported at this time. Residents in the area were advised to remain cautious and keep windows closed during the incident to avoid smoke exposure.
The fire is currently under control, and investigators are expected to begin their review of the cause soon. Local authorities are urging residents to stay informed through official channels and to report any suspicious activity or signs of fire immediately.
