On Saturday morning, May 18, the Wilmette Fire Department hosted an open house event that drew a crowd of local residents eager to see the department’s newest additions. Among the highlights were several vintage fire apparatus on display, along with the ceremonial unveiling of Engine 27. After a brief presentation, firefighters and community members gathered to push the new engine into its new home at Station 27, marking a significant milestone for the department.
Engine 27 is a 2019 Pierce Dash CF PUC, unit number 32569. It's equipped with a 1,500 GPM pump, 750 gallons of water, and a foam cell that can hold either 20 or 30 gallons. The engine also features a 35-foot ground ladder and is designed to operate as Engine 26 when the tower ladder is unavailable. This new unit will replace the older 2013 E-One engine, which will now serve as a reserve vehicle.
The event was not only a celebration of the new equipment but also a chance for the community to connect with the firefighters and learn more about the department’s operations. Photos from the day captured moments of pride, camaraderie, and excitement as both active and retired firefighters joined in the festivities.
Wilmette FD recently sold their reserve tower ladder, and they currently have another engine available for sale. This ongoing modernization effort ensures that the department continues to provide top-tier emergency services to the community.
The event was well-attended, with many residents expressing appreciation for the opportunity to see the new engine up close and meet the dedicated men and women who protect their neighborhood. It was a proud day for the Wilmette Fire Department and a meaningful moment for the community.
