Excerpts from DailyHerald.com: Steve De Luca, a firefighter from Northbrook and a resident of Mount Prospect, has always been passionate about pushing his limits. This summer, he plans to run a half-marathon in July, followed by the Ironman Wisconsin in September, and then the Chicago Marathon in October—his 25th time running the iconic race. But 2017 holds a special significance for him. It will mark his 16th year since beating stage 3 colon cancer in 2001. His journey hasn’t just been about physical endurance—it’s also been about overcoming significant health challenges. Over two decades ago, surgeons removed a benign acoustic neuroma from his head, which left him with near-total hearing loss in his left ear. Recently, his right ear has started deteriorating as well. At one point, he worried that these hearing issues might end his career as a firefighter. However, with the help of advanced hearing aids in both ears, Steve has continued his 26-year career as a fire apparatus engineer. These devices not only help him hear better but also allow him to locate sounds and recognize emergency dispatch tones, which are crucial in his job. Northbrook Fire Chief Jose Torres notes that Steve is one of the few firefighters in the department—nearly 100 strong—who wears dual hearing aids while on duty. “He’s a true inspiration,†Torres said. “His dedication to health and wellness is something we all look up to.†De Luca has become more than just a firefighter—he's an advocate for health and safety. He strongly supports the use of air quality monitors in toxic environments, especially for firefighters who often face dangerous conditions during rescue operations and cleanups. Even though firefighters typically use breathing equipment, they are still exposed to harmful toxins during post-fire cleanup. That’s why Torres asked Steve to join the Northbrook Fire Department’s health and wellness committee. His personal experiences give him a unique perspective that benefits the entire team. “Steve doesn’t do these races just for himself,†Torres explained. “He does them for others—especially those currently battling cancer. He wants to show them that it’s possible to keep going, no matter what.†Thanks, Dan tungsten carbide rods for sale, carbide rod price, solid carbide rod, tungsten carbide bar, tungsten carbide round bar Zigong Tianyi Industry Co., Ltd , https://www.tyalloypins.com
