Chicago's latest Engine Company was officially dedicated today. Engine 2, named the Christopher Wheatley, officially went into service this week and was formally christened this morning. Attendees at the event included Karl Klotz, Gordon J. Nord, Jr., and Larry Shapiro, who captured a number of memorable moments. Until the full set of images is edited and uploaded, here are two photos from Larry Shapiro’s collection.

The event took place in front of a crowd of firefighters, city officials, and local residents, marking a significant milestone for the Chicago Fire Department. The Christopher Wheatley is not only a symbol of honor but also a powerful addition to the department’s fleet. Its name honors a fallen firefighter, adding an emotional and historical layer to the occasion. More images will be posted tomorrow. Karl Klotz has already shared a gallery featuring Engine 2, and another with photos from the dedication ceremony. You can view them here and here.
