"From overseas and abroad," Honeywell 's international strategy has added a new line to China.

Come to China

Honeywell came to China very early. From the first time he entered China in 1935, his history in China has been 77 years. To date, Honeywell has 41 wholly-owned subsidiaries and joint ventures in China with a total investment of approximately US$600 million and 12,000 employees. In 2011, Honeywell’s sales in China reached US$1.9 billion.

In September, Honeywell’s domestic expansion in China took another step. Honeywell's Tianjin Automation Division and Automation Integration Center was formally established in Tianjin Huaming Industrial Park and is part of Honeywell (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. The new company covers an area of 7,000 square meters and serves the oil and gas, chemical, power, and pulp and paper industries. It is an integrated automation system center integrating design, system integration, manufacturing commissioning, and personnel training. As one of Honeywell's four major businesses, the Automation Control Systems Group manages 7 departments and tens of thousands of products and services. The establishment of the Tianjin New Company indicates that they have integrated a new and unified platform for industrial automation.

Honeywell's vice president of process control and general manager of high-growth regional business Mr. Dai Kejun specially rushed to the opening ceremony of the factory from Shanghai, and said in an interview with the China Industry News reporter that the Honeywell expansion in Tianjin, scale Three times the previous one. It is understood that Honeywell officially entered Tianjin for 15 years, currently has two factories in Tianjin TEDA, and has a joint venture with Sinopec in Tianjin.

Why did Honeywell build another production base in Tianjin Huaming Industrial Park under the premise of Tianjin TEDA's two factories? Mr. Dai Kejun said that Tianjin Huaming Industrial Park is a demonstration low-carbon industrial park in Tianjin. The structure of the green ecological office building in the park is very suitable for Honeywell's production here. In addition, Honeywell has established a factory in Tianjin for many years, has established a good cooperative relationship with local governments, and is willing to carry out continuous investment and cooperation.

Chen Guangyuan, general manager of Honeywell's Tianjin Automation Division and Automation Integration Center, said that the establishment of the Tianjin New Company is one of the aims of the company to expand its industrial automation business within the country. Different from the Chongqing branch, the Tianjin New Company is mainly engaged in the application research and production of control systems, while the Chongqing Branch mainly provides high-tech solutions.

Chen Guangyuan also introduced the "Project Studio" of Tianjin New Company. Because Honeywell's products are mainly for industrial users, especially process industry users, Honeywell often needs to work closely with customers and suppliers when it comes to conducting business. The large site of the Tianjin New Company just provided the possibility for such large-scale projects or even very large projects to cooperate with Honeywell's experts to design a control system that best meets customer requirements.

Go overseas

Different from the expansion of general multinational companies in China, Honeywell does not merely pay attention to the Chinese market and provides products and services to local customers. They also extend the service chain further: not only export products from Chinese production base, but also help Chinese customers expand overseas business.

Honeywell’s extended expansion approach is in line with the global strategy of “Oriental Service to the West” and “Becoming a Chinese-Style Competitor” that they proposed a few years ago.

Mr. Dai Kejun said that Tianjin New Company will not only provide automation solutions for all customers in China, but also export products to Asia, the Middle East and some countries and regions in Russia. He also said that at present, some large oil and gas and chemical companies in China are expanding their overseas operations. For example, Sinopec hopes to undertake projects in Africa, Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, etc. Honeywell is a large domestic company. Long-term, international partners can provide them with services and technical support in these areas.

How to coordinate with the international business developed by the headquarters? Mr. Dai Kejun said that when Honeywell serves Chinese customers, it is generally the system design of the group's Chinese team in Beijing or Shanghai that will be sent out to Chinese customers after being produced. Honeywell has branches and sales offices in more than 160 countries and territories around the world. When Chinese customers also conduct service projects in these countries, Honeywell’s local branches and sales offices are often responsible for these projects. carried out. In the next 20 years, these branches and sales offices will also carry out maintenance services for these projects.

For example, Mr. Dai Keji said that Honeywell has released a new PlantCruise DCS system this year, which is mainly used for small and medium-sized chemical companies and process control systems used in small power plants. It is entirely designed by the R&D team in Shanghai and is specially developed for Chinese customers. It is suitable for both Chinese customers, but also for some overseas customers with the same needs. Today, Honeywell has exported it to countries such as Africa and Central Asia. "Honeywell must not only supply the Chinese market, but also follow Chinese companies to participate in the world's competition," said Mr. Dai Kejun.

In fact, in the direction of “going overseas”, consensus has already been reached at the senior level of Honeywell. Shen Dali, president and CEO of Honeywell China and India, once stated clearly that “at present, there are hundreds or even thousands of local companies in China that are going global, so if you cannot provide services to these companies in China, then When their business expands to Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, they will not think of you." It is also true that Shen Dali defined this behavior as: "This is in fact equal to another wave of investment from China, a new wave of investment originating in China, and the Chinese market will become a part of many of our global projects. Bridgehead."

Continue to invest

After the outbreak of the financial crisis, it has caused an impact on the world-wide real economy. Many companies are in poor condition and have narrowed their investment fronts. However, it is an exception for some multinational companies that are located in China.

Mr. Dai Kejun said that in the past five years, Honeywell’s annual growth rate of sales in the Chinese market has remained above 21%. It is understood that Honeywell will build a new automobile turbocharger plant in Wuhan this year and plans to invest 60 million US dollars. At the same time, Honeywell (Chongqing) Friction Material Co., Ltd. opened in Chongqing and mainly produces high-performance ceramic-based composite brake pads.

For Honeywell's contrarian investment behavior, Mr. Dai Kejun explained that Honeywell had a very good position for himself after a hundred years. Although China currently has some industries that are in recession, such as construction, housing, and buildings, large-scale industries such as automobiles, industrial automation, and petrochemicals are continuing to grow. So Honeywell is very optimistic about China's economy.

Shen Dali also stated at the beginning of this year that “in terms of high growth areas such as China and India, our growth has been double the growth of local GDP. I believe that if there is no particularly large sudden occurrence in some regions like the Middle East this year, Disaster, we should be able to achieve double-digit growth.
