A police officer responding to a burglary call was injured in a traffic accident in the Logan Square neighborhood this afternoon, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. when the officer’s squad car collided with another vehicle near Sacramento Avenue and George Street.
Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala confirmed that the officer, whose age and gender have not been released, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition. A spokesperson from the Chicago Fire Department also confirmed the injury, though no details on the officer's specific condition were provided at this time.
Zala stated that no other individuals were injured in the crash. However, it has been reported that a civilian was also involved in the collision and is receiving medical attention. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
