I just received some fascinating photos from Bill Friedrich showcasing different pieces of equipment used by the Western Electric Fire Department in Cicero. These images offer a glimpse into the tools and resources that were once part of their firefighting operations.
Here's one picture featuring the fire station itself, along with some of the apparatus parked outside. It’s incredible to see how everything was laid out back then. The attention to detail in the vehicles and the overall setup is impressive.
In another shot, you can see the firefighters responding to what must have been an emergency call. The energy and focus on their faces as they head out to assist their community are palpable. It’s a reminder of the dedication and quick response times these departments require.
There’s also this fantastic image of a 1957 American LaFrance 800 Series truck. The design of the vehicle is both classic and functional, and it’s clear why this model was chosen for such important work. The photographer, Dan Martin, did an excellent job capturing every detail of this iconic piece of firefighting history.
These photographs not only highlight the technical aspects of firefighting but also bring to life the people who served and the era in which they operated.
