Changshu Huayin Welding Gu Wenhua became the leader in the brazing industry in China

On August 10th, Gu Wenhua, a senior engineer at Changshu Huayin Solder Co., Ltd., played a key role in the development of national standards for silver fiber materials. In 2008, these standards were officially released, marking a significant milestone. Notably, Changshu Huayin Solder became the only private company in Jiangsu Province to directly participate in the formulation of such national standards. Gu Wenhua’s journey began earlier, in 2006, when he partnered with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to establish a research and development center for silver fiber materials. This collaboration bridged academic research with industrial production, fostering innovation and practical application. In the first half of this year, Gu Wenhua and China Southern Airlines University jointly developed five new products that have secured national patents. These products are now leading in their industry. Additionally, Gu Wenhua led the implementation of the National Torch Plan Project, focusing on high-rare earth silver solder for large generators. The technology behind this product is highly advanced, with independent intellectual property rights and a clear edge over competitors. Huayin Solder Co., originally known as the Changshu Non-Ferrous Metal Materials Plant, faced severe financial difficulties in 1990 and was forced to shut down. However, Gu Wenhua, a farmer with only a high school education, took the initiative to take over a struggling solder shop that owed 1 million yuan. He borrowed over 200,000 yuan from friends and family, invested in advanced equipment, and recruited local rural youth with junior college degrees. He also brought in experienced engineers from abroad to provide long-term guidance, significantly improving product quality and market competitiveness. By the second year, the debt was fully repaid. He then established the Changshu Welding Materials Factory, which later became Changshu Huayin Solder Co., Ltd. The company implemented innovative marketing strategies, transitioning from simple product sales to a multi-functional approach that includes sales, capital management, after-sales service, and brand promotion. Today, the company has more than 600 outlets across 150 cities nationwide, covering over 30% of the national market. Revenue has grown from millions in its early days to 140 million yuan last year, with per capita income reaching 1.5 million yuan, placing it at the top of its industry. The company has also been recognized as a high-tech enterprise in Jiangsu Province. Gu Wenhua’s success is rooted in his focus on talent and innovation. He actively recruits and trains young professionals, sending them to prestigious universities and research institutes in Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing. His efforts helped build a strong talent base. In the early 2000s, as China's aerospace industry expanded rapidly, domestic welding solutions for dissimilar materials were still reliant on imports. This not only cost a lot in foreign currency but also caused delays in critical projects. A metallurgical research institute attempted to develop such products but failed to meet the required standards. Gu Wenhua learned about the challenge through a conversation with the institute’s sales staff and decided to take action. He organized a team to conduct over 100 iterations of key processes, including silver feeding, formula smelting, extrusion, rolling, and wire drawing. Eventually, they successfully solved the technical challenges in welding dissimilar materials like ceramics and glass. They developed new high-tech products such as "silicon-free and cadmium-free silver fiber." Gu Wenhua personally delivered a 50-gram sample to the Guilin Aerospace Electronics Institute for testing, where it outperformed imported alternatives. Today, Huayin Solder products are widely used in electronics, electrical machinery, appliances, refrigeration, and mechanical industries. They have also been successfully applied in critical infrastructure projects such as rockets, spacecraft, submarines, the Three Gorges Dam, and the Xiaolangdi turbine units. Most notably, the fiber products from Huayin Solder will be used in the electronic gauge navigation system of the upcoming "Shenzhou VII" mission.
