PSA Group Cooperates with Turkish Automobile Company to Develop New Models

On February 28, 2008, PSA Peugeot Citroën entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Karsan, a leading Turkish automotive company. The partnership aimed to manufacture the Citroën Berlingo First and Peugeot Partner Origin models specifically for the Turkish market. Additionally, the companies planned to develop and launch an extended version of these commercial vehicles. These models were designed to meet local demand and would also be exported to non-EU countries. Production of the vehicles was set to begin at Karsan’s facility in Bursa, Turkey, by the end of 2008. The plant was expected to reach an annual production capacity of 150,000 units by 2013, marking a significant step in expanding PSA's presence in the region. This collaboration was part of PSA Peugeot Citroën’s broader CAP2010 strategy, launched in 2007, which focused on accelerating product development and global expansion. By strengthening its foothold in key markets like Turkey, the group aimed to boost its international competitiveness. In 2007, PSA Peugeot Citroën sold approximately 39,100 vehicles in Turkey, capturing a 6.6% market share. The Turkish market, located in Central and Eastern Europe, saw total vehicle sales of around 595,000 units that year, highlighting its importance as a growing automotive hub. Karsan had long been a trusted partner of PSA, producing the Peugeot Partner Origin at its Bursa plant and distributing it locally. This new agreement further solidified their relationship, combining Karsan’s manufacturing expertise with PSA’s global brand strength. Karsan Automotiv Sanayi Ve Ticaret is a prominent Turkish automaker and a subsidiary of the Kiraça Group, known for its strong presence in the domestic market and its commitment to quality and innovation.
