Counterfeit heat sink misleads Florence with its damage
At the start of the new year, as many home-based businesses welcomed customers with a touch of elegance, Florence radiators found themselves at the center of a storm. The brand faced overwhelming criticism and hundreds of online posts accusing it of poor quality and irresponsible behavior. Comments like “Don’t buy Florence products anymore,†“Even a famous brand can have installation issues,†and “Consumers are weak, Florence is too careless†flooded social media. Florence quickly became the target of public outrage.
After an investigation, it was revealed that the issue stemmed from counterfeit sellers who falsely claimed to be affiliated with Florence. These individuals sold substandard products, caused leaks, and then disappeared without a trace. Consumers, unable to seek redress, turned their anger toward the real Florence company. This incident highlighted how fake products can bring down a genuine brand—leaving the authentic company to bear the blame.
In this New Year, Florence did not seem to welcome the idea of "opening the door to wealth." Instead, it found itself caught in a new "complaint trap," following other brands like Dongyi Risheng, Hecheng Sanitary, and Faenza. A case in point was Mr. Li, who ordered a radiator from a salesman claiming to represent the "Florence Radiator Factory" during a gathering hosted by Focus Home Improvement Network. In November 2007, the product was installed, but soon after, it began leaking, damaging his wooden floor, furniture, and walls. When he tried to contact the "manufacturer," he found no one to answer. Eventually, he turned to the real Florence company through an online forum for help.
The situation was further complicated by impostors who misled consumers. On the Focus Decoration Forum, hundreds of users responded to Mr. Li’s post, expressing frustration and disappointment. One user wrote, “A good brand is one that listens to its customers. Florence, you need to come up with a solution.†Others shared their own negative experiences, stating that while they had considered Florence for their renovation, they were now wary. Many users warned others not to buy Florence radiators, calling the brand a “bully merchant.â€
Despite being recognized as a benchmark in the heating radiator industry and holding the title of a nationally renowned brand, Florence faced questions about its quality. When contacted, General Manager Yang Deyuan of Beijing Floridian Radiator Company explained that the issue was due to improper installation and that the customer had purchased the product through a fake "Florence Radiator Factory." The salesperson was an imposter, and the seal and receipt were forged.
To address the confusion, the Florence company issued a statement on Sina.com and various decoration forums, confirming that the products in question were indeed counterfeit. They also published a blog post on Yang Deyuan’s personal blog detailing the truth behind the leak. However, despite these efforts, many netizens continued to spread misinformation, believing there was a problem with Florence itself.
Since the incident, the online chatter has not stopped, and Florence's phone lines have been overwhelmed. According to Yang Deyuan, the company is struggling to clear its name while dealing with the fallout from counterfeiters. “The damage to our brand image is serious,†he said. “With fierce competition in the industry, this criticism will only make things harder for us.â€
