The first phase of transformation focused on adjusting the product portfolio. In the 1980s and 1990s, the company gradually phased out low-value, high-pollution products such as bicycle tires, activated carbon, and benzoic acid. Although this affected short-term profits, it aligned with long-term goals of social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The company invested 48 million yuan in wastewater treatment, particularly targeting salty wastewater from the saponification process. Over the years, 10% of treated wastewater was reused annually, significantly reducing environmental impact. At the same time, the company shifted toward high-value, low-pollution products like medical rubber, polyether polyols, and fluorine-free polyethers, which now make up 90% of its product range. This helped optimize the industrial chain and reduce resource consumption. In the second stage, the company increased investment in environmental protection, focusing on end-of-pipe treatment and meeting discharge standards. With support from the Zibo Municipal Government, the company launched multiple large-scale projects, including biochemical wastewater treatment, calcium chloride recovery, resin plant wastewater management, and facility relocations. These projects, totaling over 100 million yuan, addressed critical pollution issues. One notable innovation was the A/DAT-IAT combined treatment process for ion exchange resin wastewater, which reduced costs by 30% and improved efficiency. The process was later adopted industry-wide, setting a new benchmark for pollution control. The third transformation involved relocating facilities from urban areas to industrial parks. The company moved its rubber and plastic operations to a newly built plant in the Dongda Industrial Park, doubling production capacity while improving cleanliness and safety. The new facility met national medical equipment standards, achieving a 300,000-level cleanroom environment. Additionally, the company implemented advanced "four-in-one" production technology, enhancing automation and efficiency while minimizing emissions. By 2007, the company had made significant progress in energy saving and emission reduction. Energy consumption and production costs dropped, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) decreased by 40%. The company also resolved 34 unorganized emission points, greatly improving air quality. As a result, it passed the clean production audit by the Shandong Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, earning a Class B certificate and moving closer to becoming a green enterprise. Looking ahead, the company aims to expand further during the "11th Five-Year Plan." It plans to build a new production unit capable of producing 100,000 tons of propylene oxide and 150,000 tons of polyether annually. By then, the company's annual output will reach 160,000 tons of propylene oxide and 250,000 tons of polyether, with sales exceeding 5 billion yuan, solidifying its position as one of the largest chemical material production bases in northern China.
