Chicago firefighters were called to a structure fire at 18th and Kedzie (1817 S. Kedzie). The 14th Battalion arrived on scene with a three-story vacant building fully involved. Engine 107 immediately began using the deck gun on the rear of the building, while Engine 109 took the front side A. Shortly after, the 14th Battalion transitioned into a defensive position. To bring the fire under control, multiple hand lines, Tower 5, Squad 1, and a couple of point advantages were deployed.

The response was quick and coordinated, showing the professionalism of the Chicago Fire Department. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. This incident highlights the critical role that emergency responders play in protecting lives and property in the city.

The slag pot covered here is a load-bearing device whose sole purpose is to collect molten or solid slag generated during metallurgical or chemical processes, to retain it during transport and to deposit it at a place of disposal.
