The Mount Prospect Fire Department officially moved into their brand-new Station 14 just 10 days ago, but it's no surprise that the place isn't fully complete yet. The contractor didn't waste any time—within days of the move, they started tearing down the old station right next door. The new facility shares the same address as the previous one at 2000 E. Kensington. While most of the work is on track, there's still a punch list of items to finish. One of the most noticeable areas that’s still pending is the front bay doors. Right now, they're plain gray steel with no windows. It seems the permanent doors have been rejected twice already. The first time, they were taken off for repainting due to an "orange peel" texture on the finish. When they were returned, they never even made it off the truck! The final version will include windows, so we’re all waiting to see how that turns out.

Interestingly, the construction of the new station was done with strict sustainability and safety standards in mind, especially for extreme weather conditions. A few years back, a major storm hit the area and caused significant damage. That event highlighted a critical need: the northern part of town lacked a sturdy structure to protect residents during severe weather. As a result, this new fire station was built to higher resilience standards. However, the exact specifications weren’t available when this update was written, so we can only guess what kind of advanced features it might include.

With everything still in progress, these updated photos are definitely not the last. Stay tuned for more updates as the station continues to take shape. And if you're curious about the current state of things, be sure to check out the latest images below!
