(NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and engineering software, has partnered with CGarchitect, a premier online platform for visualization and design professionals, to announce the winners of the 2015 Autodesk Excellence in Infrastructure Competition. This annual event celebrates innovative uses of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in civil infrastructure projects across the globe. Now in its fourth year, the competition honored Arup as the first-place winner, Ramboll–Parsons Brinckerhoff Joint Venture as second, and HNTB as third, for their groundbreaking work on transit and bridge projects. CivilE, LLC was recognized for the Small Project Award, while Dawn Digital Pvt. Ltd. took home the Visualization Award. Amar Hanspal, Senior Vice President at Autodesk, emphasized the importance of these projects. “Each of these entries showcases how BIM can transform complex infrastructure projects by improving collaboration, enhancing constructability, and enabling more effective communication among stakeholders.” The competition, managed by CGarchitect and co-sponsored by Autodesk and HP, received over 40 submissions from around the world. Entries were evaluated based on complexity, innovation, sustainability, and the effective use of BIM throughout the project lifecycle. The winners will be celebrated at the upcoming Autodesk University 2015 conference in Las Vegas. **First Place: Arup** Arup was awarded first place for its work on the MTR Shatin to Central Link, a 17km railway expansion in Hong Kong. The project involved the construction of twin tunnels, an underground station, and ventilation structures in one of the most densely populated areas of the city. By integrating GIS data and using BIM workflows, Arup improved design coordination and project management. **Second Place: Ramboll – Parsons Brinckerhoff Joint Venture** This joint venture won second place for its work on the Transport for London Hammersmith Flyover. The project required significant strengthening of a 622m-long pre-cast concrete bridge. Through laser scanning and BIM modeling, the team ensured accuracy and efficiency in the design and construction process. **Third Place: HNTB** HNTB received third place for its work on the Sixth Street Viaduct in Los Angeles. As the first bridge of its kind in California, it presented unique seismic challenges. BIM played a key role in coordinating design, structural analysis, and visualization. **Small Projects Award: CivilE, LLC** CivilE, LLC was recognized for its work on the Walnut Park Apartment development in Austin, Texas. Despite the project’s size, the firm used BIM to enhance collaboration and streamline the design process. **Visualization Award: Dawn Digital Pvt. Ltd.** Dawn Digital won the Visualization Award for its stunning animation of the Godrej BKC office building in Mumbai. Their creative approach highlighted both aesthetics and functionality, showcasing the power of visual storytelling in architecture.
