Allison Transmission announced the launch of its first nine-speed transmission at the North American Commercial Vehicles Show in Atlanta, United States, which will be launched globally in 2020.

Randy Kirk, senior vice president of product engineering and products at Allison Transmissions, said: "The new transmission will continue Allison's mission to help improve fuel efficiency and meet greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards. This coincides with the implementation time of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Greenhouse Gas and Fuel Efficiency Phase II standards."

With its first gear ratio and industry-leading ratio range, Allison's nine-speed gearbox offers significant fuel savings, and its high-efficiency gear system enables torque converters to prematurely lock in one gear. In addition, this 9-speed gearbox has an engine stop and flameout function that is integrated with the engine. When the engine is restarted, the gearbox can immediately mount the forward gear and lock the output to prevent the car from slipping. This nine-speed variable box is the best choice for a variety of applications such as delivery vehicles, rental trucks and school buses.

Kirk said: "With FuelSense's fuel-efficient technology strategy, advanced software and electronic control packages and other fuel-efficient technologies, the nine-speed gearbox will create a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and emissions reductions, establishing a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Model (GEM). Many OEMs in Europe and Asia have shown great interest and are very excited. We will evaluate the prototype this year."

The Allison 9-speed gearbox was built on the proven quality of the Allison 2000 Series six-speed commercial gearbox, and the vehicle equipped with the gearbox has accumulated more than 100 billion miles worldwide. The new design is designed to use the same OEM interface as the six-speed gearbox for easy compatibility with existing Allison 2000 Series vehicles.

The smaller ratio steps provide a more comfortable driving experience for the driver and also makes the starting of the vehicle more stable. This in turn allows the driver to enjoy faster acceleration performance while increasing his productivity.

The Allison Transmission's Continuous Power Technology smoothly multiplies the engine torque and brings more power to the wheels. Compared to the manual and AMT gearboxes, the Allison transmission-equipped vehicle allows the driver to increase fuel economy while saving fuel efficiency. It also enables comfortable driving, as well as greater safety and control flexibility. Allison Transmission is famous for its quality and reliability, and can bring higher comprehensive economic value. Compared to vehicles equipped with manual, AMT, and dual clutch transmissions (DCT), the additional value of configuring the Allison transmission vehicle has been further validated.
