Valve affect the engine valve repair and adjustment
Due to issues with the gas valve, such as damage, improper sealing, or incorrect opening/closing, the engine's effective power can be reduced, leading to weak performance and increased fuel consumption. In severe cases, this may even cause spontaneous combustion of the engine. Especially when replacing the air filter, if you notice oil contamination on the filter cartridge inside the box, it's highly recommended to perform a full engine inspection, focusing on the gas valve's condition. Check whether it is properly sealed and if the timing of its opening and closing is accurate.
The gas valve is controlled by a linkage rod connected to a camshaft. As the chain or pulley pulls the linkage, it pushes the end of the gas valve’s push rod, opening either the intake or exhaust port. The spring then returns the valve to its closed position, allowing it to cycle continuously. This process must be precise for the engine to function correctly.
To conduct a thorough inspection, use specialized tools. Begin by compressing the gas valve spring and removing the retaining lock ring. Remember the sequence of each cylinder to avoid confusion. Then, remove the gas valve, mark its tip with chalk, and insert it back into the seat. Gently turn the throttle and check if the chalk mark disappears completely, indicating a proper seal. If the mark remains in some areas, the gas valve may be damaged and no longer seals effectively.
Next, polish the gas valve. Since it operates in high-temperature conditions, the valve stem might deform over time. A precision instrument should be used to measure the clearance between the valve stem and its guide, checking for excessive wear or misalignment. If the stem is bent, it may not move up and down smoothly, affecting performance.
When adjusting the gas valve, ensure the distance between the pivot point of the rocker arm and the top of the valve stem is typically 0.25–0.33 mm. Also, check the clearance between the valve stems. These measurements should be based on the engine’s ignition sequence—commonly 1-2-4-3 or 1-3-4-2—to ensure correct timing and operation.
Lastly, make sure the rear cover and lid are properly sealed. A faulty seal can directly impact the engine’s power output. Always use the correct torque specifications and high-quality gaskets designed for high temperature and pressure environments. Only with these steps will the engine run efficiently and reliably.
